Airport authorities have promised angry residents living near Hongqiao Airport that by the end of November the skies will be quieter. In recent weeks, noise from low-flying aircraft has prompted a wave of complaints, Shanghai Daily reported.

"When planes pass low in the sky, the vibration and noise is powerful enough to set off the sound-controlled lights in the corridors," one resident complained to the Oriental Morning Post.
