A Canadian identified only as Goodwin paid 12,000 yuan (US$1,711) to taxi driver Wang Fei yesterday for injuring Wang in a dispute, the Jing'an District People's Court said.

On October 14, Goodwin took Wang's taxi to pick his brother up from his office to go for dinner. Goodwin got out of the taxi to call his brother, but Wang didn't understand what he had said and chased after him to demand the fare. Goodwin thought the driver was going to hit him, and during the fight, Wang's finger was strained.
