A middle-aged drug addict was sentenced to four years in prison yesterday for setting fire to the corridor of his residential building after taking drugs.

On the morning of March 3, Dong Jian, 41, had a paranoid episode after taking the drug "ice" and became convinced someone was trying to hurt him. He was at home and decided to start a fire. He piled clothes in a fifth-floor corridor of his residential building and set them alight, the Xuhui District People's Court heard.
