Lu Longfu is the first volunteer recruiter at the Shanghai Blood Center. His job is to educate the public and encourage people to give donations.

"Though there was a dramatic spike in blood donors after the earthquake hit Sichuan on May 12, encouraging blood donation is a very tough task most of the time," says Lu, a 55-year-old Shanghai native who has donated blood more than 10 times.
