The city's largest thermal power plant plans to build a new coal-fired power generator with up to 1.5 million kilowatts of capacity in Pudong, the Shanghai Waigaoqiao No.3 Power Generation Co Ltd said yesterday.

"Our hope is to establish a more advanced power generator near our two existing generating units," said Feng Weizhong, the company's deputy manager.
