A Heilongjiang Province native was charged with extortion yesterday for allegedly threatening to expose a homosexual man unless he paid him 50,000 yuan (US$7,322).

Jing'an District prosecutors said the victim, surnamed Xu, met the defendant, Li Ke, 23, in a homosexual chat room on the Internet on June 16.
