Evidence from the powerful video surveillance system at Shanghai South
Railway Station has helped police crack 149 criminal cases and detain 281
suspects since it was set up in July 2006.
Railway police said that
anyone who enters the station area is recorded on video at least once. This,
officers said, is possible through the use of 282 high-definition video cameras.
The cameras cover all the exits, platforms, ticketing areas, passages, lounges
and luggage rooms.
