Shanghai will spend 30 billion yuan (US$4.4 billion) - half of its entire environmental budget - on controlling water pollution over the next three years, Shanghai Daily reported.

The money will be used to expand the city's sewage treatment pipeline network, to complete the Qingcaosha Reservoir for added drinking water supply and to further improve water quality in the Suzhou Creek and Huangpu River.
