Diggers are ready to start an underground passage that will run down the Bund alongside the Huangpu River, as a key stage of the city's underground traffic reconstruction project, Shanghai Daily reported.

One of the country's biggest diggers has been transported to the scene to be tested. It is planned to start operating underground before end of the year, according to the Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co, one of the project operators.
