The last 24 neon arched billboards that made up a dazzling 42-arch tunnel installed 15 years ago on Huaihai Road M. will be removed by the end of the year.

Officials from the Shanghai Greenery Administrative Bureau and Shanghai City Appearance and Environmental Sanitation Administration Bureau said the billboards were being removed mainly because they were considered old-fashioned and made passersby feel "oppressed."
