Huang Tao, a Shanghai resident, allegedly cut two of his fingers off to claim an insurance payout of 448,500 yuan (US$65,703), the Jing'an District Prosecutors' Office said yesterday. Legal proceedings were instituted against Huang.

Huang said the accident happened on October 19 last year, when he was cutting up a duck to make soup.
