A biting cold front will hit Shanghai today after heavy fog enveloped parts of the city yesterday morning causing the weather bureau to issue a yellow fog alert and close five expressways.

With the arrival of the cold front, the temperature this morning was forecast to drop to 6 degrees Celsius in the downtown area.
