Work has begun on a new aquatic sports complex in Pudong next month that will
be bigger and more costly than the Beijing Olympic Water Cube.
The
complex, temporarily named the Aquatic Competitive Center, will be built south
of World Expo Park in Pudong New Area and is scheduled to open before World Expo
2010. It will cost about 2 billion yuan (US$293 million) and will host the 14th
FINA World Championships in 2011, according to Pudong urban
planners.
