The Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau announced yesterday it would begin a program to guarantee the city's air and water quality for the 2010 World Expo.

Officials said they would launch an environmental monitoring and air pollution warning system so air-quality reports could be given immediately for Expo areas. They would also improve downtown water quality.
