The number of interments during this year's Winter Solstice festival in Shanghai will fall for the first time in two years, local civil affairs officials said yesterday.

About 30,000 ash burials will occur during the festival, which falls on December 21, about 10 percent less than last year, according to the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau.
