Shanghai's transport planners are hoping the kilometers-long traffic jams that sometimes clog highway toll stations will be a thing of the past, Shanghai Daily reported.

The city is getting ready to implement China's first large-scale use of an electronic toll-paying system. Cars and trucks fitted with equipment that emits coded radio waves will be able to zip through tollgates while their technology-disadvantaged brethren fish for change as they sweat it out in line.
