Judges want local administrative departments to step up their supervision at bars after an increasing number of criminal assault cases involving expatriates were reported in or near drinking establishments.

The Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People's Court has accepted seven assault cases since 2004 with five occurring in or near places of entertainment. In four of the cases people were seriously injured.
