An unmarried father was charged with attempted murder yesterday by Baoshan District prosecutors for allegedly trying to poison his 6-year-old daughter, Shanghai Daily reported.

Prosecutors said the 32-year-old from Henan Province took poison himself, in an attempted suicide, after feeding it to his daughter. Both survived because the suspect, surnamed Niu, had been sold fake rat poison.
