The Shanghai government has poured 200 million yuan (US$29.1 million) into developing compulsory education in the suburbs during the fourth quarter of the year.

A total of 130 million yuan was used to build compulsory education schools and the rest of the cash was spent providing pre-school education, officials said yesterday.
