Safety net is tightened on city's food imports

Shanghai port is enhancing inspection of incoming food shipments following an import ban on Irish pork and quality problems with products from other parts of Europe and the United States.

Every batch of imported food will now be checked, the Shanghai Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau said yesterday. In the past, the bureau relied on spot-checking import samples.
