The Songjiang District People's Court yesterday ordered a vet surnamed Wang to pay 2,500 yuan (US$364), including 500 yuan in compensation for mental anguish to a Hong Kong woman.

The woman sent her pet dog to Wang's animal clinic to be sterilized in June, but the dog died during the surgery.
