Shanghai is to build 1,039 new public toilets across the city to serve the hundreds of thousands of visitors coming to the 2010 World Expo, an official of the city management authority said yesterday, Shanghai Daily reported.

The city now has about 7,000 public toilets. More than 3,000 were built by the city government, said Lu Jianping.
