Eight people were hurt yesterday in an early morning fire that swept through a commercial building in Shanghai's Baoshan District and caused six of the victims to jump from the second floor.

Hours before in Luwan District, a midnight fire had a happier ending when a woman who clung screaming to a narrow ledge for around a half hour as flames poured out of her apartment window was rescued by firefighters.
