A bishop performs the rite of communion at the Xujiahui Cathedral, also known as St Ignatius Cathedral, in Shanghai's downtown Xujiahui area on Christmas Eve. Yan Zhiyuan, vice president of the Christian Three-Self Patriotic Committee, said more people also came to the Shanghai International Chapel than past years. There are more than 21 million Christian church members in China, and more than 50 million Bibles have been printed.
