There is plenty
more hot weather in the forecast this week, with clouds and showers expected on
the weekend to cool the city down at least a little bit. A red hot alert was
sounded around the city at 10:34am yesterday, suggesting temperatures would top
35 degrees Celsius. The mercury hit 36 degrees Celsius in the afternoon,
making yesterday the 26th "extremely hot" day - those with temperatures above 35
degrees - this summer. There were 24 such days last year, and the city only
registers nine such days in an average year, according to the Shanghai
Meteorological Bureau. The return of the heat, after a temporary break last
weekend, didn't cause any major problems with local power supply, according to
the Shanghai Electric Power Co. But more problems could arise with the return
of the heat. The daily high today should be 35 degrees or higher, while the
low is forecast at 28 degrees. Daily highs will remain around 34 degrees
through Thursday, with low of 28 degrees over night. It will be cloudy on
Friday, when showers are expected, with temperatures between 27 and 33
degrees. Forecasters say there will be two rainy days this week.
