City hosts world congress for the deaf

The 17th Congress of the World Federation of the Deaf, Asia Pacific
Region, was held in Shanghai yesterday morning, with more than 125
delegates from 16 countries participating. The congress, held in China for
the first time and with the theme of establishing a harmonious society, has
focused on the development of support systems for the deaf in the Asia Pacific
Region. The World Federation of the Deaf (WFD), establish in 1951, is an
international non-governmental organization, which aims to work for the benefit
of deaf people around the world, protect their rights and assist them to
recover.
