Families relocated to make-way for the site of Shanghai Expo 2010 will get
two additional rooms on average in their new homes, government spokesperson Jiao
Yang revealed at a November 16 press conference.
The relocation, to be
completed by the end of next year, involves over 18,000 families from 18
neighborhood communities of six sub-districts in the three districts of Huangpu,
Luwan and Pudong, she added.
The families will move to homes in two
residential quarters of Pudong's Sanlin area and Minhang District's Pujiang
area, with a total construction space of 2 million square meters. The new homes
will have an average living space of 70 square meters each, more than double the
30 square meters of their previous residences.
Most people support the move,
Jiao said.
Since the relocation started in late March, 15,000 families, or 80
percent of the total, had signed relocation agreements by November 14. The rate
is 98.4 percent for those in Pudong New Area, 93 percent for Luwan and 55
percent for Huangpu.
As regards buisinesses on the site, nearly 90 percent
have signed agreements to move. The rate is expected to hit 100 percent by
year-end and all the relocation work is expected to be completed by the end of
2006.
