Foreign companies played a leading role in Shanghai's foreign trade last
year, accounting for seven of the top ten importers and eight of the top ten
exporters in the city.
The city recorded total imports of US$95.626 billion
last year, an increase of 10.53 percent year-on-year. Foreign companies
accounted for around two-thirds of this.
Only three Chinese state-owned
companies - Baoshan Iron and Steel Co Ltd, Baosteel Group International Trade
Corporation and China Eastern Airlines Import and Export Co Ltd - are among the
top ten importers, registering US$1.487 billion, US$1.409 billion and US$1.261
billion respectively, to rank seventh, eighth and ninth.
Bax
(Shanghai) Co Ltd was the champion importer last year with US$3.99 billion,
followed by Intel Products (Shanghai) Co Ltd and Inventec (Pudong) Co Ltd, at
US$2.403 billion and US$2.343 billion respectively.
Shanghai registered
total exports of US$90.724 billion last year, an increase of 23.42 percent
year-on-year, with foreign exporters accounting for 67.88 percent of the total.
Tech-Front (Shanghai) Computer Co Ltd, Inventec (Pudong) Co Ltd and Inventec
Appliances (Shanghai) Co Ltd were placed first, second and third on the list,
with exports of US$11.456 billion, US$4.199 billion and US$2.713 billion
respectively.
State-owned Baoshan Iron and Steel Co Ltd and China Worldbest
Group Co Ltd are the only two Chinese companies in the top ten.
Pudong,
Songjiang and Minhang Districts were the top three districts in terms of export
volumes, with US$18.099 billion, US$15.783 billion and US$7.885 billion
respectively.
