The city plans to build up to three wind turbines in silt and offshore areas
in the next five years, Shanghai Daily reported.
The turbines, with a capacity of 100,000 kilowatts each, would help meet
growing energy demand and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, a major source of
pollution.A preliminary study on a large wind farm at sea, with a potential
capacity 10 times that of a land-based turbine, will also begin, according to a
draft version of the city's wind-power development plan until
2010.
