Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng met a delegation led by Sergei Stanishev, Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria, at Xijiao Guesthouse at noon yesterday.
China and Bulgaria have maintained a long-standing friendship with each other. As a port city in China, Shanghai has reported surging economic and trade exchanges with Bulgaria over recent years, Mayor Han said. "Shanghai is an open city with many foreign companies investing in the city. More local residents have traveled or took business trips to Bulgaria, and I believe your visit will help Shanghai's entrepreneurs have a better understanding of the country, and enhance our bilateral relationship.
Shanghai's social and economic development is amazing, and entrepreneurs from Bulgaria are expected to exchange more with their Shanghai counterparts, especially in finance, trade and tourism sectors, Sergei Stanishev said, adding that the city's companies are welcome to invest in Bulgaria and seek more cooperative projects between each other.
Mayor Han and the Bulgarian PM also attended a signing ceremony for a memo of understanding between the Bulgaria Foreign Investment Agency and the Shanghai Foreign Investment Development Board.
