The city government will run an audit to check how the deposits of 12 million public transport cards are used, officials said yesterday, Shanghai Daily reported.

The move follows a lawsuit in Beijing brought by a student who accuses transport authorities of overpricing the city's 20 yuan (US$2.5) deposit.
