Shanghai opens China's first automobile museum

Shanghai Automobile Museum opened in Shanghai International Automobile City in Jiading District yesterday.

With a total area of 28,000-square-meters and an overall investment of 300 million yuan (US$37.5 million), it is China's first automobile museum.

Among the exhibitions in the museum are Hongqi CA72, the first generation of vehicles produced by China, and 40 classic cars contributed by the United State¡¯s well-known car collection organization called Blackhawk.

More exhibition sections on auto-making techniques and on brands will also be set up in the museum in addition to history and a classic car section, which it now has.

The city will witness a construction boom for industry museums just before the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. Shanghai will embrace the biggest industry museum group in China by then, authorities said.

At present, Shanghai Automobile Museum receives individuals during the weekend and group visitors from Tuesday to Friday.
