The local authority has recently launched a campaign targeting food and tourism markets to safeguard consumers' interests.

During the campaign, relevant government departments will crackdown on illegal business behavior, including selling food banned by the government, putting fake brands on fruit and seafood and other dishonest means to deceive consumers. Supervision on poultry will be strengthened to make sure no unlicensed chicken enters the market, and those who break relevant regulations will be punished. Unlicensed food production and processing sites will be banned from operating.

In the tourism market, travel agencies using contracts to deceive consumers will be punished, according to insiders.

The campaign has been initiated by the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Industry and Commerce.
