Shanghai government has revised its annual science and technology prize
regulation, the city government spokeswoman Jiao Yang said at a regular press
conference on February 7.
The newly revised version has four adjustments:
Firstly, the prize categories are revised in accordance with state standards.
The city divides its annual science and technology prizes into five categories,
including awards for Chinese individuals, natural science, science and
technology progress, technological invention and international cooperation.
Secondly, the scope of candidates has been expanded and those who contribute
to areas such as scientific management and its popularization will be
considered.
Thirdly, the prize requirements are revised to highlight self-innovation and
intellectual property rights.
Fourthly, the award appraisal procedure has been improved. Measures include
re-evaluating the result before it is formally confirmed.
The revised regulation for the science and technology awards will go into
force from March 1, 2007. People can log onto city government Website
(www.shanghai.gov.cn) for further information.
The city has been giving out awards to nearly 1,500 scientific results after
the adoption of its science and technology awards regulation in 2001.
