Shanghai has renovated 89 crowded stretches, bottlenecked areas and crossroads to ease the traffic congestion.

Thirty bus stations have been renovated into shelters or expanded so that buses can park without disturbing nearby traffic.

The city has adjusted the width of sidewalks and roads, and added extra vehicle lanes on 29 roads to improve the traffic condition, such as Qingyun Road in Zhabei District.

Channelization and more vehicle lanes on 30 crossroads, including at Zhongshan Road N. and Datong Road, will stop drivers from dangerously swerving around stopped buses.

The project also added 55,300 square meters of new roadways, and 2,000 meters of pedestrian barriers.
