A total of 20,000 LED (light-emitting diode) street lamps will be installed
along the railway track between Shanghai and its neighboring city Suzhou, a move
which will cut the energy consumption in half.
The first batch of 100 lamps has passed trial tests conducted by the No.24
China Railway Group Co Ltd whichplans to upgrade the number of lamps on the
railway track from 15,000 to 20,000. The new lamps have a longer life and
perform perfectly in energy-saving.
A conservation report says if all the bulbs and fluorescent lamps were
replaced by LED lamps in Shanghai, it might save the city power equal to the
yearly energy output of the Three Gorges project.
The Shanghai branch of the No.24 China Railway Group Co Ltd has signed a
cooperation agreement with the Taiwan-based Formosa Epitaxy Co and Hong
Kong-based Wai Chi Electronics Ltd to supply the energy-saving project.
