Shanghai mayor Han Zheng yesterday called for more cooperation in energy saving and pollution reduction between Shanghai and Vermont, United States, when meeting James Douglas, governor of Vermont, in Shanghai.

Han said the city government considers environmental protection an important issue as it plays a significant role in sustainable development. He added that the people of Shanghai have been urged to save energy and contribute to the city’s environmental protection.

Han expressed his hope that the governor's visit will further promote cooperation between the two cities in environmental matters.

Meanwhile, Douglas said the state of Vermont is willing to share its environmental protection experiences with Shanghai and that the two sides would cooperate further in the future.
