its kind nationwide, in an effort to improve food safety and address
residents'concern on food quality.
The city government reported the situation of its supervision on food safety
to the standing committee of the Shanghai People's Congress yesterday, promising
more measures to eliminate inferior food in the city.
Under the government's plan, the city will strengthen information management
on food supervision, tighten assessment procedures for allowing food to be put
on the market, track down the origin of bad food and recall inferior food.
Local government also plans to set up a food safety assessment agency that
will be in charge of analyzing food safety and warning consumers on food risks.
