Shanghai’s Chongming Island will build the country’s first theme park for bicycles that will include bike paths, competitions, entertainment as well as research and development, Jiefang Daily reported today.

Three cycling stadiums are planned including one for motocross. The park will also include a training school, a gallery and a bicycle museum.

Chen Xichang, a local NPC member from Chongming Island, proposed the bicycle theme park idea at the city’s NPC and CPPCC sessions this year.

Chen suggested building dedicated cycling paths for competition along the island’s northern shore, an aquatic stadium over Mingzhu Lake, the island’s largest natural lake, and an international cycling entertainment center around Dongping National Forest Park.

Chongming Island has held national or international cycling races since 2003. The international women’s race around the island will be held from April 25 to 29 this year.
