Scouring the streets for bad language
10/5/2008 12:54

Chen Qian/ Shanghai Daily news

Volunteers from 19 universities will hit the main streets of the city to look for incorrect English spelling or translations.

The Shanghai Language Works Committee has organized the campaign aimed at fixing English signs and standardizing translations before 2010.

The committee said it had already changed some signs from routine checks and by acting on public tips. It said some shops had translated "exit" into "export" - a sign which would be a target for the campaign.
