City health authorities said yesterday they had completed the inspection of
measures to curb the spread of hand, foot and mouth disease at nearly 500 local
kindergartens and primary schools, most of which had already launched effective
prevention systems.
The Shanghai Health Bureau said task forces had been sent to 125 local
medical facilities, 454 kindergartens and 45 primary schools on Wednesday and
Thursday.
Only a few premises failed to meet the requirements to beef up their
anti-HFMD sanitary practices and they had been warned to immediately improve
disease prevention measures.
As of yesterday, nearly half the children at kindergartens in Huangpu
District, one of the city's most populated downtown areas, had been inspected by
the health authority with no case of HFMD detected.
