Shanghai collectively kicked its heels up last night as the grand opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics unfolded, culminating in a dazzling, state-of-the-art fireworks display.

For more than three hours, the whistles and cheers didn't stop in every corner of Shanghai, from outdoor plazas in the city center to communities, pubs and universities. Shanghai locals and expats were out in full force to show their support for both China and the Olympics.
