Fire-safety push shuts venues

Eight businesses were
ordered to shut down, and 29 companies were fined for inadequate fire safety
measures, the Shanghai Fire Control Bureau said yesterday.
The fire
control authority made a surprise inspection of over 400 entertainment venues on
Monday and checked another 600 shopping centers, malls, hotels, restaurants and
tourist spots over the next four days.
