Shanghai Daily news Swindler Tang Jiancong was ordered
by Xuhui District People's Court to return 58,865 yuan (US$8,600) to one of his
victims yesterday. Since Tang was missing, judges said they would unfreeze
Tang's bank account to help the victim get back his money. The victim, Mao
Lingen, received a call on August 22, 2006, claiming that his bank card had been
debited, and he was asked to call a bank information center to clear up the
matter. Mao was later told by the "center" that he had probably been the victim
of fraud and was advised to transfer his funds to another account. As soon as
Mao transferred the money, he suspected he had been cheated. He asked the bank
to freeze the account, which belonged to Tang, but couldn't draw the money out
after that.
