Twelve South Korean films will be shown in Shanghai during the South Korean Film Week, which starts on November 16.
The Shanghai International Film Festival organized the event as part of the State Film Week series that included the French Film Week, Italian Film Week and Singaporean Film Week.
Some of the South Korean films smashed box office records in that country and other parts of the world, and others won awards at international film festivals.
The films include "Beautiful," "Christmas in August," and "Secret Sunshine," which won the best actress award for Jeon Do-Youn at the Cannes Film Festival in 2007.
The opening movie at the local event is "Happy Life," which was directed by Lee Jun-ik, who also made the renowned "The King and the Clown."
Jun will attend the opening ceremony and meet Shanghai movie fans, according to the event organizer.
By holding film weeks that spotlight a wide range of countries, the series hopes to enhance communication between local and international movie makers and promote the Chinese film industry, the event organizer said.
