Police bust bogus Olympic ticket website
22/4/2007 9:25

Three people have been arrested for setting up a fake official Olympic ticketing website and cheating ticket buyers of their money, police in southeastern China's Fujian province said.

One of them was surnamed Xie, a resident in Quanzhou city of Fujian. Xie bought a domain name and set up a website to publish fraudulent ticketing information for the 2008 Beijing Olympics since mid-March.

The other two suspects are involved in website design and maintenance, applying for bank cards and buying cell-phone SIM cards.

Ten people have contacted the three suspects via mobile phone to make ticket reservations.

The police arrested the suspects and seized three computers, seven bank cards as well as five SIM cards on April 14.

Investigation into the case is underway.

Online-booking of more than seven million tickets for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games through the official website www.tickets.beijing2008.cn started on April 15. Tickets will not be delivered until June 2008.
