China launches new geostationary weather satellite

China launches a meteorological satellite yesterday morning. The Fengyun-2-06
was sent skyward on a Long March-3A rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch
Center in Sichuan Province. It entered a preset orbit 24 minutes later. The
1,390-kilogram satellite, developed by the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight
Technology, will play an important role in weather forecasting and disaster
