The Chinese International Channel of China Central Television (CCTV) has
just undergone a transformation since the beginning of the new year, aiming to
better cater to different groups of global audience. CCTV-4, a state-run
international channel broadcast in mandarin, China's official language, since
1992, began to be aired in three editions -- Asian, European and American --
since Jan, 1, a CCTV spokesman said. "The transformation is aimed at
providing programs in line with the audience's daily schedule and viewing
habits, and nearly 13 percent Asian edition programs are about Taiwan," he said,
adding more Olympic programs are injected in the three editions. Meanwhile,
the European edition focuses on cultural and service programs, introducing
Chinese history and the country's reform and opening-up, while the American
edition features more art and entertainment programs, he
said.
