12/2/2007 9:35

Four Chinese tourists injured in a shipping accident in Vietnam have been sent back to a Chinese hospital, local sources said yesterday.

The injured are in a stable condition and being treated, doctors with the No. 1 Hospital of Guangxi University of Medical Science told Xinhua.

The Vietnamese side has offered compensation of 50,000 yuan (US$6,450) to each of the badly injured and 30,000 yuan (US$3,870) to each who only slightly injured.

Compensation for the dead, who are still in Vietnam, is being negotiated, local foreign affairs authorities said.

The collision happened near Mong Cai town of Quang Ninh province Friday morning when a hydrofoil with 30 people on board, including five crew members, which had set out from the province's Ha Long City, hit a stationary cargo ship in conditions of poor visibility.

Two Chinese and a person from the Republic of Korea were killed in the accident. Eighteen others were injured, including nine severely.
