Two mainland media resume work in Taiwan after three-year suspension

Correspondents from two of Chinese mainland news organizations, the Xinhua
News Agency and the People's Daily, are slated to resume reporting activities in
aiwan today after a three-year suspension. The four correspondents, two from
Xinhua and two from the Communist Party of China newspaper, are en route to
Taiwan by way of Hong Kong. They are expected to reach the island today
afternoon. They are to stay on the island for up to three months until their
replacement, as the Taiwan authorities extended at the end of last month the
stay of mainland journalists to three months, up from one month, on a rotation
basis. In April, 2005, the Taiwan authorities suspended reporting activities
by the Xinhua News gency and the People's Daily orrespondents on the island.
